Volunteer Training

Hospice Care Ottawa requires all client care volunteers to complete a 30 hour Volunteer Core Training. All new client care applicants will be contacted when our next training is available. Applicants accepted into the program will learn the necessary tools and skills to become a hospice volunteer. Applicants are welcome to volunteer in other hospice roles while awaiting a training session.

Priority will be given to applicants who:

• Have flexible availability
• Can commit to a regular weekly assignment for at least one year
• Speak a second language
• Are flexible as to the program in which they will volunteer
• Are existing volunteers who meet the criteria
• Volunteers must be 18 months past the death of a close loved one before attending training
