Who we are

Hospice Care Ottawa / Who we are

Our story

Hospice Care Ottawa is a community-based charitable organization. We offer palliative and end-of-life programs and services to people living in the City of Ottawa. All services are offered at no charge to people we serve and their families.

We provide Residence Hospice Care, Bereavement Care, and Community Hospice Care programs such as in-home visits, day hospice and Caregiver Support. Our services meet the highest care standards in a setting that reflects as closely as possible a comfortable home environment.

Hospice Care Ottawa was formed in January 2013 by two founding organizations: Friends of Hospice Ottawa and The Hospice at May Court. This amalgamation provided increased awareness and funding for hospice care in Ottawa and allowed for efficient delivery of compassionate, high quality hospice care for those when and where they need it.

Hospice Care Ottawa proudly recognizes and welcomes the diversity of our community and strives to be inclusive for all. Diversity includes, but is not limited to, age, gender, ethnicity, physical and mental disabilities, sexual orientation, race, nationality, lifestyle, religion, and education.

The delivery of our programs and services is made possible through the support of a small dedicated staff, many volunteers and generous donors. Each year we need to raise over $2.5 million to ensure our programs continue.

Our mission
Hospice Care Ottawa provides compassionate, high quality care to people and their caregivers from the time of diagnosis with a progressive life-limiting illness through their palliative and end-of-life journey.
Our vision
Promoting quality in life, compassion in death, and support in bereavement to people in need across Ottawa.
Our core values
  • Compassion and respect guide all of our actions and decision-making.
  • Inspiration comes from the courage and strength of those we serve.
  • Excellence in person-centered care is integral in all our work and relationships.
  • Community grounds all our work.  We embrace and encourage collaboration, partnership, and diversity.
Our care
