PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Fund Development Manager is a proactive, innovative, experienced relationship builder, keen to manage and drive results in key revenue streams for Hospice Care Ottawa (HCO) including events, corporate sponsorship and giving, annual giving (newsletters, mail campaigns, eblasts), third party groups, and foundations. Working with the team, your direct report, and many dedicated fundraising volunteers, you will deliver successful events, develop partnerships, send winning solicitations and proposals, and will help to formalize the annual giving program and donor journeys.
The goal in all areas will be to deliver outstanding, memorable experiences, increase and exceed revenue targets, raising profile, building audiences, while nurturing life-long loyalty.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with the Director and team to develop annual fundraising plans and budget, and helps gather, analyze and measure against key performance indicators.
- Manages the work and performance of the Fund Development & Communications Coordinator, providing coaching, mentorship and guidance as needed.
- You will build genuine relationships with committees, businesses and groups, proactively forging new relationships to build support for HCO.
- Builds and maintains relationships with key community stakeholders, donors, and prospects, including in person customer service to constituents.
- Working with the team to ensure consistent and engaging donor journeys across multiple channels.
- Assists in donor-centred cultivation, stewardship, and recognition of ambassadors and champions.
- Cover for Director and Coordinator as needed.
Signature & Third-Party Events
- Work with key staff and volunteers to plan and execute HCO signature events (currently Hike for Hospice, Holes for Hospice, and Homes for the Holidays with Pop Up Shop) and community/third-party events.
- Work with committees and team to identify, cultivate and solicit prospective corporate sponsorships; develops engaging solicitation proposals to secure new, renewed and upgraded support, prepares agreements, activations, and delivers stewardship reports.
- Identify, cultivate, engage and steward corporate fundraising teams.
- Develops and manages event critical paths, budgets, sponsorships packages, and staff lead for committees.
- Deliver ongoing and timely communications and stewardship of all key stakeholders including sponsors, event hosts, volunteers, participants, and donors, nurturing life-long loyalty.
- Work with Fund Development and Communications team to monitor, analyze and evaluate all communications associated with the events, and liaise on communications strategies to ensure that the integrated communications and fundraising objectives of HCO are being met.
- Ongoing maintenance of event websites, and provide outstanding customer service and solutions to constituents who need help setting up online fundraising pages.
- Creatively market year-round third-party events to attract new ambassadors, and maintain an active portfolio of third-party event initiatives to ensure they meet the fundraising goals of HCO.
- Support third-party event hosts through sharing of resources, tools, and best practices and assisting with event logistics, attend, and supervising events as needed.
- Manages event, donor, and sponsor stewardship and recognition.
- Involves the Coordinator as needed to ensure not all time is spent on events.
Annual Giving
- Work with Director and team to ensure regular, multi-channel, integrated fund development and communications solicitations and stewardship touchpoints achieve optimal results.
- Liaise with colleagues and volunteers across locations and departments to help with Hospice story-telling. Use those stories to write compelling annual appeal letters, eblast campaign content, bi-annual newsletters, annual impact reports, donor testimonials, etc.
- With support of the whole team, oversee the production and mailing of the bi-annual Hospice Matters newsletter for 7,000 stakeholders (hard copy and electronic mailings) and the annual Report to the Community.
- Work with the team to implement annual Giving Tuesday Campaign to drive momentum, secure donations, and elevate engagement.
- Work with Coordinator to organize additional mail appeals such as “year end” and others as we need, but our focus remains on digital.
Third Party Groups
- Work with Coordinator to manage all relationships and cultivate, solicit and steward religious groups and service clubs supporting HCO, and proactively identify new partnerships.
- Work with Team and Outreach Committee to cover public speaking engagements as needed, and proactively identify additional clubs to cultivate and solicit.
- Attend business networking functions and work to build relationships for future support.
Foundations
- Work with Director to research new potential funding, track granting cycles, assist with writing winning letters of intent and proposals, track project progress, and reporting back to funders.

Position Status: Permanent, Full-time
Position Schedule:
37.5 hours per week, weekdays; some evenings and weekends to attend meetings and events. The Fund Development & Communications Manager is to flex their work week when working evenings and weekends in order to avoid accumulating extra hours.
Compensation:
$70,000 - $80,000 Salaried. Eligible for Group Benefits (Health/Dental, Life Insurance & LTD) and paid personal/sick time after 90 days
Location of Work: Hospice Care Ottawa locations: Ottawa, Kanata
Travel: Required. Must be able to travel within Ottawa-area
Language of Work: Bilingualism in both official languages - oral and written an asset

- 5 years’ experience in fund development including events management
- An entrepreneurial spirit, always researching, connecting and making new opportunities happen
- Passionately dedicated to providing high quality, top in class donor experiences, and proactively seek ways to improve the donor journey and engage more prospects in our cause
- Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in fundraising or events management or related discipline
- Bilingualism (French and English) an asset
- Strong relationship building skills, with the ability to build momentum for a cause
- Excellent communications skills with proven ability to influence
- Excellent marketing and presentation skills for diverse audiences
- Meticulous about using the organization’s databases
- Experience with event websites, and online donation platforms
- Experience managing staff an asset
- Ability to think “out of the box” and to help Hospice Care Ottawa develop a flexible and creative approach to events and fund development
- Ability to work in a demanding, results oriented, busy environment as part of a closely-knit team and with many volunteers
- Highly organized self-starter; independent and self-directed
- Excellent current skills and knowledge with software programs such as Publisher, Excel, Word, Power Point, Canva, etc.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to other sites within the City of Ottawa
- Ability to demonstrate compassion, empathy, composure and respect in interactions that center around death and bereavement
Support for Success:
