Hospice Care Ottawa (HCO) is a community-based charitable organization whose mission is to accompany and support individuals and their families through their end of life journey by providing compassionate, high quality care. Hospice programs include Day Hospice, In-Home support, Family Support, Residential Hospice services and Bereavement Support. We rely on and value the contribution of over 600 volunteers who contribute to every aspect of our programs. PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Fund Development & Communications Coordinator will help drive fundraising results and will work to engage, motivate and recognize our outstanding community of donors, partners, volunteers and staff using various communications vehicles. You will assist with marketing and promoting signature events and community third-party events, and be comfortable writing and story-telling. You will be key to forging new relationships, keep people engaged and building support for Hospice Care Ottawa (HCO).
The goal in all areas will be to deliver outstanding, memorable experiences, increase and exceed revenue targets, raising profile, building audiences, while nurturing life-long loyalty.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with Manager on HCO signature events (currently Hike for Hospice, Holes for Hospice, and Homes for the Holidays with Pop Up Shop) and community/third-party events with your primary focus being on marketing and promoting events, but will assist with other areas of event planning and execution as needed.
- Generate compelling social media content (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn & Twitter), increase and monitor engagement, maintaining an annual calendar marking cultural holidays, all while appealing to wide stakeholder audiences.
- Apply social media knowledge and skills to optimize fund development and event promotion opportunities.
- Work proactively to identify new media opportunities, new audiences, and use creative/influential messaging to help build audiences, sell tickets, get likes, sell sponsorships, get people sharing, etc.
- Assist with event websites, and provide outstanding customer service and solutions to constituents who need help setting up online fundraising pages.
- Help to attract new support from service clubs and religious groups that support HCO, and support the Manager as needed to ensure groups are recognized, thanked and celebrated.
- Working with the team to ensure consistent messaging and engaging donor journeys across multiple channels.
- Seek and monitor outreach speaking opportunities and coordinate with the volunteer Community Outreach Team to secure speakers/volunteers, and volunteer writing opportunities, such as collecting donor and/or family testimonials, helping to write newsletter content, etc.
- Maintain timely content, develop creative visuals on the Hospice Care Ottawa Weebly websites (both FR & ENG), and special event fundraising websites.
- Monitor, triage and/or respond to email inquiries received on the general Hospice inbox.
- Assist the Manager and Director with writing, content, logistic coordinator on larger projects like Annual Report, biannual newsletters.
- Maintain annual Communications calendar ensuring we mark special occasions, religious holidays, celebrate our community members, staff, donors, etc.
- Biannual review of website content to ensure accuracy and update as needed.
- Liaise with translation volunteers to ensure bilingual communications.
- Maintain an active list of media contacts list and proactively secure media to further our mission, promote events, and elevate our brand.
- Undertake special projects under the direction of the Fund Development Manager and/or the Director of Fund Development & Communications as required.
- As back up for the Donations Administrator, you will be comfortable processing donations, interacting with donors, and providing best in class customer service.
- Cover for the Fund Development Manager as needed.

Position Status: Permanent, Full-time
Position Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, weekdays; some evenings and weekends to attend meetings and events. The Fund Development & Communications Coordinator is to flex their work week when working evenings and weekends in order to avoid accumulating extra hours.
Compensation:
$50,000 - $60,000 Salaried. Eligible for Group Benefits (Health/Dental, Life Insurance & LTD) and paid personal/sick time after 90 days
Location of Work: Hospice Care Ottawa locations: Ottawa, Kanata
Travel: Required. Must be able to travel within Ottawa-area
Language of Work: Bilingualism in both official languages preferred - oral and written
COVID-19: Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required; possess the ability to continue to comply with vaccination policy

- 2-3 years’ experience in a fund development, events, communications or marketing role in the charitable sector
- Bilingualism in both official languages - oral and written - preferred. Candidates who do not meet this language requirement may still apply and would be considered should there be no qualified applicants who meet this requirement
- Eager to learn and willingness to pitch in where needed – no two days or two weeks will be the same, but you will learn a lot and reap the rewards of working with this dedicated community
- Passionately dedicated to providing high quality donor service, and building genuine relationships
- Post-secondary degree in a related discipline
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to think creatively to develop innovative, flexible and modern approaches to marketing and communication
- Experience managing social media channels, and marketing a cause.
- Ability to think “out of the box” and to help Hospice Care Ottawa develop a flexible and creative approach to events and fund development
- Ability to work in a demanding, results oriented, busy environment as part of a closely-knit team and with many volunteers
- Highly organized self-starter; independent and self-directed
- Current social media and graphic design experience
- Experience in donor databases is an asset
- Excellent current skills and knowledge with software programs such as Publisher, Excel, Word, Power Point, Canva, etc.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to other sites within the City of Ottawa
- Ability to demonstrate compassion, empathy, composure and respect in interactions that center around death and bereavement
Support for Success:
- Regular bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with the Fund Development Manager with additional support from the Director of Fund Development & Communications for Communications
- Regular bi-weekly Fund Development and Communications team meetings

- Must possess access to reliable vehicle to travel within Ottawa-area when required
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends for meetings and events when required
