Alnoor Maherali has been actively involved in community service for most of his life and has been an employee of the Public Service since 2004. He is currently Policy and Partnerships Advisor for the Aga Khan Development Network, on leave from his position of Senior Policy Advisor at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development in the Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Response Group. He has served two overseas assignments: Embassy of Canada in Kabul (2008 – 2009); and Head of Section (Political, Economic and Public Affairs) at the High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh (2011-2013). In 2013, Alnoor was awarded the Operational Service Medal for his time in Afghanistan. Most of his volunteer experience has been with the Aga Khan Foundation Canada and the Ottawa Ismaili Community, where he has served on numerous boards, including Youth and Sports, Arts and Culture, Human Resources and Communications. He is a clinical care volunteer in the residential care program at Hospice Care Ottawa’s May Court Hospice site and is a former home support volunteer. Alnoor has volunteered with Kids Help Phone, Telephone Aid Line Kingston, and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
